Why is God all of a sudden too mysterious to prove himself?

God used to smite lands, turn people into pillars of salt, and do all other kinds of showy things.





Now if people ask to see this kind of stuff they're told "God shouldn't have to prove Himself", or "You wouldn't believe even if that did happen". Or "God proves himself everyday when babies are born and flowers grow" or whatever.





1.) Yes, if God wants us to believe, he should show Himself to us. There's nothing wrong with that. We'd still have a choice to worship Him or not.





2) I guarantee you, if someone turned into a huge pillar of salt in front of me, I would definitly believe.





3) Those things don't prove God. Science explains those things. However, if God turned people into pillars of salt or who knows what other spices, there would be no other explanation- that's real proof.

Reply:yes, its true that God wants us to belive him, but he gave us freewill to stand for what we believe, w/c means its up to us whether we're on his side,..for us people who believes in him, we dont need to see him to prove that he exist, coz we feel his presence in our heart.

Even if God started turning people into pillars of salt, that would not mean that people should start worshiping him.





If God started turning people into pillars of salt simply because they didn't believe in him or practice his favorite religion, then that would prove that God exists, but also that he is immoral. Even if such a being does exist, no one should ever worship him.
Reply:Wow, great question. God reveals Himself all over the world, just not as much in places where people have hard hearts and do not believe. There were actually towns where Jesus could not perform many miracles because of the small faith of the people there.





God longs to reveal Himself, but we have to have soft hearts. Many times God did miracles in the Old and New Testaments, and people saw it with their own eyes, but still refused to believe. If we do not have soft hearts, we could be turned into pillars of salt, and still reject God as our savior.





Now, when people repent, cry out to God, and turn from their sin, this is called "revival." And during revivals, many more miracles happen. And especially in other countries (mainly second world and developing nations), people are a lot more inclined to believe in the supernatural, so God shows Himself.





People think you need to see to believe, but you actually need to believe to see. When you don't believe, it is akin to having scales on your eyes. So even when God is fully present, you literally can't recognize it.





Don't fear, however, because it says in the bible that in the End times (we are approaching them rapidly), God will reveal Himself in undeniable ways. There will be "Great signs in heaven and on earth." Trust me, there are new times coming where the supernatural will become more common. Here's the scary part though -- it also says that people will become so darkened in the end times, that God will appear before them, undeniably, and they will STILL reject Him! So watch out for these times. Jesus said, "woah to the generation that seeks a sign, no sign will be given to him except the sign of Jonah!"





Basically what this means is, the ultimate supernatural miracle already happened -- Jesus rose from the dead and is alive today still. If we refuse to believe this ALL ENCOMPASSING miracle, how are we going to believe any other miracles that God provides? We need to be soft-hearted and repentant to see God.
Reply:Hi happykid, you do not need to believe in God. Who told you need to. At least with my God, God does not need you to believe in God. But, when I read between the lines I see you really would like to believe in something. Instead of the word God, maybe you could just believe in Love. Create your own idea of the why and is of Love. Create your own idea of where and the why of all the crap in the world, etc. You certainly do not need to use others' idea of what God or Love is. I have it very tough in life medically, mentally, personality wise, etc. Creating my own God, just for me, not anybody elses' helps me not only keeping hanging in there, but actually have a bunch of fun for moments at a time.

Reply:I'm not sure I want to worship a God that would smite lands and turn people into pillars of salt. Jesus did many wonderful miracles---but then Jesus was probably a member of a sect (Essenes) that was very fringe and not accepted in His day. I don't know why God doesn't prove Him/Herself with miracles today. But I'd be willing to bet all the money in my purse that at least one person will answer with, "Because God is dead".

Right now he seems to be an idea made by humans who didn't have Science 2000+ years ago!
Reply:The problem is not whether or not God can prove Himself, or reveal Himself. He still reveals Himself to those who WANT to know Him. It's a matter of the human heart and will, not a matter of some miraculous manifestation.


Jesus said:


"If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead." Luke 16:31


It is not that God is slow to reveal Himself, it's because we don't want to obey what He tells us that hinders us from knowing Him.


" Without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that HE REWARDS THOSE WHO EARNESTLY SEEK HIM." Heb.11:6.

Reply:As far as I understand the god has made man to live purposefully. It is later that the man thought about his creator the god and decided to remember him. One of him became more alive to the thought than the rest and preached others to follow him and listen and watch. One the thought was firmly established in the minds of the multitudes, visualisation started in many forms, as discussed in the question, and others had no way but to believe and try to realise themselves. Since it was all in mind of the people, no material existence was possible to be proved though very debated, played, imitated by the wise and the wicked alike.


Still it is a matter of personal faith and practice and cannot be a universal subject.
Reply:God has no need to prove himself because believing in him is all about faith. Even when Lot's wife was turned into a pillar of salt people still worshiped idol Gods. If God started casting judgment as he did in the bible days then the earth would probably be void. Grace came along in the new testament and that is why you don't see such events happening as they did in the old.
