ok.. so im getting custody of a 9 month old boy and a 24 month old boy..... their mother and the oldest ones father are in the army and are getting deployed to Iraq in August....
we are goign to have them for about a year... and i was thinking of ways to make them feel at home when they get here... i mean they used to be here ALL the time, but their mother took them to Colorado about 4 months ago....
We are going to put them both in the same room with all their own stuff...** their mother is shipping all of their stuff to erie in July** I was thinkong of redecorating the room that they are going to be in to make it more of a *baby freindly* kind of room... instead of having flowers all over *the room that they are getting is my old room* I was wondering how i could decorate the room for 2 baby boys... and also how can i make them feel more at home once they get here....
*i know August is a LONG time away... but i dont want to be rushing around at the last minute.*
can any help
Looking for advice from moms out there...?
My Aunt took in a little boy while his parents were deployed..(my whole family is military so the parents were very comfortable leaving him because they had been together on base for so long) She made his room as boyish as possible..
she painted three of the walls a red color and then the fourth wall she painted half of it with that chalkboard paint.. so you could like color with chalk on the walls and stuff.. she had a cars trucks etc border on the wall
i would suggest giving the older one a special place to hang his coat etc. brayden seemed to love that he had his own little spot to hang his stuff
i would also suggest buying those shelves they sort of look like crates and they stack.. they are such a life saver
i would also make sure you baby proof well.
cover all the outlet holes, window locks, the things to put on the blinds so they cant get to the strings etc
hope to have helped!!
Reply:Putting them in the same room is a good idea. They see their parents leaving, but they still have each other to see everyday. I would probably just paint it a baby blue color. God bless you for taking on two babies so that our good men and women can defend our freedom.
Anyways, see if she can send the bedclothes, so it's like at home and make sure that you have some of their favorite animals and toys- not just any, but their favorites.
Reply:I would go visit them or have them come visit you so that they remember you and ask the oldest what he wants in his room. One of my nephews we painted his room as Madagascar. The 2 boys that share a room we painted a cityscape with Batman on one side and spiderman on the other. The girls wanted my little pony but we just painted the castle and town with a meadow. Talk with him and see what he wants.
Reply:Well for there room I would decorate it in something you know they love, like a favorite character, transportation, sports, something that you know they will love. Make sure the room looks boyish.
Reply:DEFINATELY CHILD PROOF THE ROOM. I WOULD SUGGEST CARS OR THOMAS THE TRAIN, I KNOW ARE REALLY POPULAR FOR BOYS, BUT WHATEVER THEY LIKE THE BEST. WELL I GUESS THE 9 MONTH OLD REALLY DOESN'T HAVE A SAY BUT THE 24 MONTH OLD PROBABLY DOES.
