What would be a bulb that would bloom this spring?

I am throwing a baby shower and have painted 10- six inch flower pots to plant something in... Can you help me with an inexpensive idea for plantings? Preferably like a bulb that will bloom this year, or flowers that can be transplanted.. Thank you!

You would need a summer flowering bulb like Gladiolus or Canna. They wouldn't be in bloom in time. though. and I think it would make more visual impact of you had an actual plant or blooms in the pot.

Pothos is an easy care houseplant. No blooms but definitely easy care.

Pansies are a popular springtime flower. They are colorful and transplant to the garden easily.

Or maybe you just attach take some pretty ribbon and tie on a packet of Baby's Breath seeds. Or just tuck the seed packet inside the pot. Cute, no? Baby's Breath for a baby shower favor?? Also look for Gypsophila seeds. It's another name for Baby's Breath.
Reply:I prefer growing Anemone coronaria or Anemone blanda.

You can try www.bloomingbulb.com if you wish to buy some seeds
Reply:you are better off buying bulbs in bloom at the store ..like tulips. If you plant them now, they will not bloom this summer. Bulbs need the long cold of the winter for it gather nutrients to bloom. if you are looking to buy a bag of bulbs, they definately will not be ready by the spring. They may get some spring but the flower will be a very poor showing if any at all. Walmart usually has pretty cheap bloomed bulbs around this time of year..
